Imagine needing special symbols to designate whitespace because some braingenius decided they should matter to the compiler
what the hell are you talking about
Is that not a screenshot of python? I just assumed from the formatting. I’m sorry for not keeping my grumbling in the tags I meant no offense.
oh no it’s a screenshot of some GDScript (godot engine). which i guess might have similar syntax to python, but I haven’t touched the latter in years so idk. i don’t see the issue with indents being important though
Godot is based I’m sorry for the slander. My main issue with the indentation is if it’s a general purpose programming language it makes it significantly harder to parse or debug outside of a dedicated ide. If I’m opening a python file in something like nano or vim there’s no way to visually distinguish between a tab and 4 spaces, whereas if a language uses the traditional parentheses, brackets, and braces it’s more obvious. Otherwise it’s largely an aesthetic preference
oh. that’s actually a good point, but it’s also not something i’ve run into even outside of godot- VSCode has little bars marking tabs for .gd files, although i can’t say i really edit gdscript files outside of godot all that often
i can absolutely see the appeal of making stuff explicit with brackets and such though
